Senior Crimestoppers Program

Since 1999, the Memphis-based Senior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation has served as a conduit for banks to earn no-risk Community Reinvestment Act credit while achieving above-market yields and helping to fight a problem that plagues our society – the exploitation and abuse of nursing home residents. The mission of SHCPF is to promote a safe, crime-free, high quality of life for residents of nursing homes and other senior housing facilities through its Senior Crimestoppers Program. Banks support this mission by making CRA-creditworthy loans and investments in their communities. By participating in the Senior Crimestoppers Program, Mississippi’s banks can join the banks of 45 other states where this program has been proven to reduce crime against nursing home residents by over 90%.

Through endorsement of the Senior Crimestoppers Program, the MBA has adopted the mission of SHCPF. All MBA member banks have the opportunity to support this mission through sponsorship of nursing homes and senior housing facilities in their communities. To speak to a Senior Crimestoppers representative, contact George Clinard at (877) 232-0859.

Overdraft Protection by Strunk & Associates

The Mississippi Bankers Association has endorsed Strunk and Associates, L.P., as the preferred overdraft services vendor. The MBA endorsement includes the well-known Strunk Overdraft Privilege(SM) Program as well as Strunk’s new ODP Plus Program. ODP Plus is a program to review and rejuvenate existing ODP service programs (whether a bank did it themselves, used Strunk and Associates, or any other vendor). The Strunk ODP Plus Program helps any bank to improve their overdraft services.  If you would like to talk with a Strunk representative, please contact Rick Ivey at (972) 576-3703.

The endorsement arrangement will provide discounts to MBA member banks which enroll in the program. The MBA will support Strunk’s marketing and educational efforts and will receive income based upon the number and size of banks enrolled and re-enrolled in the program.

CONNECTIONS by MSI

The CONNECTIONS program by Birmingham-based Marketing Solutions Inc. is an Internet-based CRM program which automates many bank sales and marketing functions. A bank that uses the program puts its customer data into a secure online format, and the software does the rest. Bankers can pull useful data from CONNECTIONS to produce reports analyzing account demographics, trends and profitability.

Banks that sign on to CONNECTIONS can use it system-wide to evaluate customers’ banking needs and automatically deliver information to customers about products to meet those needs. As a follow-up, banks can track prospects and customer responses to its marketing efforts. The online system ensures that employee referrals are credited to the right person, making incentive plans easier to manage. For more information, see the link above.

Under the endorsement, MBA member banks will receive discounts off monthly fees payable under the program, and the Association will receive royalties and other compensation. The MBA will work in support of MSI’s marketing efforts.

Fraud-Net

Fraud-Net, the MBA-endorsed online computer network, is used to combat financial crimes. Since its MBA endorsement in August 2005, 82 MBA member banks and 61 law enforcement agencies have signed on as users. In addition, eight credit unions are users due to a financial arrangement between MBA and the Mississippi Credit Union Association. Fraud-Net allows bank personnel and law enforcement to exchange reports on incidents of fraud and robbery, and to track reports in a secure computer network. It aids investigations by allowing reports to be sorted by type, geography and other categories.

The MBA provides Fraud-Net as a member service free of charge to all member institutions and law enforcement agencies. To join, click on the Fraud-Net link above, click on ‘New Users Register Here,’ and follow the instructions. MBA staff evaluates applications and approve new members.

Fraud-Net is available at no charge to member banks.

Group Health Insurance

MBA member banks can enjoy the benefits of a group health insurance program by becoming a part of the Association’s group health plans.

The Association group health insurance program has been in effect since 1951, with the Voluntary Employees’ Beneficiary Association Plan and Trust getting its start in 1990. Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi has administered the plan since 1998. The Mississippi Bankers VEBA Plan and Trust offers six different health plan designs to membersbanks. There are currently 44 banks participating in the plan, which is governed by eight Trustees. The Trustees strive for (1) good benefit design, (2) rate stability, (3) adequate reserves, and (4) good service.

Stockett & Thomas Agency, L.L.P., in Jackson consults for the MBA on all Association insurance plans. For more information, call Stockett & Thomas at (601) 948-3733 or contact MBA insurance coordinator Nikki Fair at (601) 948-6366.
