The Mississippi Banker - September/October 2007 More than 21,000 students taught to save during savings emphasis More than 20,000 children in Mississippi were reached this spring by bankers doing presentations in classrooms about saving. The presentations are part of the Teach Children to Save program, conceived and promoted by the American Bankers Association Education Foundation. The ABAEF promoted April 21 as National Teach Children to Save Day, doing press events around the country, but savings presentations can be made any time of the year. Data is gathered from bankers who signed up on the ABA’s web site to participate. About 650 bankers from throughout the state reportedly took part in the program, making 610 total presentations and reaching 21,800 students. The press covered the event in Mississippi. MBA President Mac Deaver did a statewide radio interview with Mississippi Public Broadcasting on Apr. 21 promoting the saving emphasis.
